Entire nation listens to songs from T Series or the Zee Music Company. It has become more mechanical now instead of being creative.
There is no bifurcation between Independent music and Bollywood music. Independent music is different from Bollywood music. Alisha Chinoi, Lucky Ali and many others used to have their own albums coming out at regular intervals but soon the count diminished and by 2005, it was all dead.Īdnan Sami, Salim and others (even myself), we all used bring out a freshness in Independent music, but it slowly drifted apart.
Raghav: Rapid change I would say! When I started in 2003, it was the decline of Independent pop music. Sandy: From the time you started and till date, what is the biggest difference you see in the music scene? That’s how I debuted under the YRF banner as a music director with Kabul Express. Then, Vijay Kumar, the Head of Music at YRF told me about their upcoming project Kabul Express and asked me to give out some tunes.Īditya Chopra liked my work and told me to give it a shot. Raghav: I had met Yash ji and he wanted me to make an instrumental version of Silsila. Sandy: How did you grab an opportunity to make your Bollywood debut under Yash Raj Films banner with Kabul Express? Raghav: It was self-taught Sandy! My stint at the Trinity College London helped me understand my grasp over music and my life at Monash made me perform on world music. Sandy: Under whom did you learn music from? I love the Scotland Bagpiper and Saxophone. My specialty is with the Wind instruments. Also, I have a natural knack to imbibe them and play along. Raghav: Ha-ha! I would the credit goes to my parents as they gifted me one every year. Sandy: Wow! I got to learn that you can play 34 instruments. It was in 2003 that I started my own music label and composed tunes for my albums. Saxophone tops as my favorite instrument. In a way, I got to play and learn each instrument for a year and that’s how I mastered at playing many instruments. Raghav: After seeing my talent whilst playing the Harmonica at the age of four, every year on my birthday I was gifted a new instrument. Sandy: Wonderful! How did the musical journey start for you? I completed my bachelor’s in music from the Monash University in Australia wherein I had my specialization in Jazz. I started playing the Harmonica at the age of four. Raghav: My father was in the IPS and he retired as a DGP. Sandy: Could you tell us a bit about your background? Sandy: Hello Raghav ji! How’s music treating you? ? Let’s wait no further and dive into the blab: He made his debut with YRF’s Kabul Express and churned out many other hit numbers in films like Sunday, One Two Three, Bittoo Boss, Rustom, Guest in London, Helicoper Eela, Bhaiyaji Superhit, etc. Hello Folks!
